I'd have to say that Venice, Rome and Pompeii were the best and most spectacular places to go while in Italy. I have decided to judge these these cities by how much there was to see, how fun it was and how it felt to be there and the sites.
Rome would have to be first on the list. In Rome there was an enormous amount of sites to see. You had the choice to see the Colosseum, the Vatican, the Pantheon, the Trevi fountain and the roman forum, where Julius Ceasar ruled once upon a time. While your standing in Rome you feel like your standing in antique shop. If you adore big cities this is one you will have to see. Rome was outstandingly fun. There was so much there to see that you were never bored.
Venice is next. There wasn't a pile of activities to do or places to see but there were a few. The sites that were there were gorgeous. Being in Venice was like being in a smoke free building except instead of not being allowed to light up you weren't allowed to drive. The only vehicles you were allowed to drive were motor boats, small ones, gondolas and bikes. When I was in Venice the coolest thing that you could do there was feed the pigeons. You don't think it would be overly fun when you think of it but it was a blast. They would have vendors set up for bird feed then you could feed the birds with it. The moment you put the seed in your hand the birds wold come flying. They would land on your arm and eat seeds out of your hand. The birds would land on your head and shoulders trying to get food from you. Other the the pigeons you could check out saint mark's square and the church or take a gondola ride on the canal.
Last but defiantly not least was Pompeii. The two things that made Pompeii worth the while were the ruins of Pompeii and the view of mount Vesuvius. These two sites are coincidentally linked. In 79AD this still active volcano erupted causing devastating damage to the near cities Herculaneum and Pompeii. The mountain is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world because of the 3,000,000 people living in its vicinity. Looking at this beautiful sculpture of the earth is awe inspiring. While you walk through the ruins of Pompeii you can see all the signs of life before the eruption and all the damage it did afterwards. It was breathtaking seeing what the volcanoes capabilities were while catching glimpses of it in the background.
These three places in Italy make it what it is today, a beautiful and historic country.
